Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of vit C deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Adverse Reactions
Hemolysis in patients w/ G6PD deficiency (after large doses); delayed-type allergic response; insomnia, sleepiness; headache; flushing; abdominal cramps, diarrhea (at ≥1 g daily), flatulent distention, gastric discomfort, heartburn, nausea, transient colic, vomiting; increased urination, kidney stone formation in patients w/ preexisting renal disease (w/ large doses); fatigue; acidification of urine, precipitation of urate, cystine, or oxalate stones, or drugs in the urinary tract, decreased blood pH; erosion of dental enamel.
Drug Interactions
Increased apparent t1/2 of paracetamol. May reduce blood levels w/ OCs containing estrogens. Decreased anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Altered excretion of other drugs due to acidification of the urine. Interferes w/ the lab test results for paracetamol, AST, bilirubin, carbamazepine, creatinine, glucose, LDH, stool guaiac, theophylline, & uric acid. Increased risk of Al toxicity in antacids containing Al. May increase urinary excretion w/ aspirin. May interfere w/ the alcohol-disulfiram reaction. Decreased fluphenazine plasma level. May accelerate excretion of mexiletine.
